BMBF Call: International cooperation in quantum technologies

Together with its European partners, Germany wants to become technologically sovereign in quantum technologies. To this end, it is essential to be able to manufacture one’s own quantum technology systems and their key components in-house. Germany cannot master these immense challenges alone. It is therefore important to cooperate with value partners on an equal footing – within and outside Europe.

The challenges are numerous: Quantum technologies must be stringently developed in the direction of application. To this end, a wide variety of scientific and technical disciplines must cooperate and companies must be involved in research. Complex technical challenges have to be solved, for example, to develop scalable quantum computers or to build quantum sensors sufficiently compact for the application. Individual components must be significantly further developed technically. In addition, special expertise is required for both the production and the use of quantum technologies. The first shortages of skilled workers are already becoming apparent.

Based on these challenges, two sub-goals are pursued:

Goal A – To bring together German and international research partners from science and industry with complementary cutting-edge expertise in the respective discipline in research and development work.

Goal B – To inspire German and international skilled workers of today and tomorrow for the requirements of quantum technologies and to further and train them.

International cooperation between universities, research institutions and companies in the field of quantum technologies is thus funded within two modules.

Deadline (multiple) 15.11.25; 15.05.26; 15.11.26
