Europe is entering a decisive phase in the global quantum race. Quantum technologies are no longer a distant scientific frontier: they’re becoming a strategic industrial capability, with implications for competitiveness, security, digital sovereignty and Europe’s ability to shape the next generation of critical technologies.
In this context, the European Commission’s preparation of a European Quantum Act is a welcome and important signal of ambition. This is a timely and necessary step: Europe has world-class scientific excellence, strong research communities and promising start-ups, but the transition from laboratory leadership to industrial strength remains far from guaranteed.
