The Löffler lab at Leiden University investigates solid-state quantum optics, acoustics, and light-matter interaction on the quantum level. They make bright sources of true single photons with semiconductor quantum dots in optical micro cavities. With this they explore several directions, from future quantum network and computing applications to microscopy. They also create quantum entanglement between several of these single photons, their availability is a crucial missing ingredient for optical quantum computers.
