Enabling Technologies for Resilient R&D Supply Chains in Quantum Technologies
Funding objective and purpose of the grant:
The aim is to establish or strengthen cooperation between actors from science and industry. Users and providers are to be strengthened in their competitiveness in quantum technologies and their position on the national and international market is to be expanded. Within the framework of this announcement, companies that have not yet worked with (non-)university research institutions in the field of quantum technologies are to participate in a joint project.
The BMFTR supports pre-competitive collaborative projects that deliver completely new and/or significantly improved technical solutions in this context. Solving the complex problems described above usually requires an inter- and multidisciplinary approach and close cooperation between companies and research institutions, so that new, improved technologies can be jointly developed in line with demand and at the same time a downstream implementation of the components can be ensured.
In addition to significantly improving the technical specifications required for applications, the work must significantly increase one or more of the following parameters: scalability, reliability, reproducibility, operability, economics, geopolitical availability.
Every research project must be derived from a clear reference to the use of quantum technologies in at least one specific use case/project. The basic practicality of the researched technology is to be demonstrated within the project period and the broad usability after the project period is to be promoted. In particular, standardization and standardization according to current standards are to be sought. Each consortium must include at least one company that acts as a system integrator and retains responsibility for developing the new technology until it is ready for the market after the end of the project.
